Avalanche Courses

So you figure it's steep and all white. "Looks good..you go first..." Huh?

Avalanches are serious business in western Colorado and our extensive avalanche-education program aims to equip backcountry enthusiasts — including skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and snowmobilers — with the knowledge and experience to safely enjoy the winter backcountry.

Learn to plan, evaluate & execute a successful ski/snowboard tour above treeline in the Rockies! Awareness of snow pack stability is critical to the choice of route and successful/safe completion of the day's tour. Avalanche assessment and avoidance skills are of primary importance to those traveling through the winter backcountry.

Aspen Expeditions offers AIARE-certified Level 1 and Level 2 courses at a variety of times throughout the winter both on weekends and during the week. Custom courses available. (All courses include the $15 AIARE fee and $ 29.95 field book - required)

AE's professional AMGA & AIARE-certified/trained guides follow both AIARE and AAA international snow education standards. Our expertise combined with years of experience assure you the highest quality instruction available, and as a result, some of our regular students include beginners, vets from the Aspen Highlands Ski Patrol and high-level local backcountry shredders looking to stay current with their education and training.
