Pyramid Peak
  • Duration 1 Day
  • Technical Climbing

Pyramid Peak, the closest 14,000 foot summit to downtown Aspen, just happens to be one the Elk Range’s most spectacular.

The peak is considered a classic in terms of scenery, positioning, difficulty and history. Due to its relatively easy access, we feel this is an excellent first “technical” peak to attempt with one or our AMGA trained / certified alpine guides. After leaving the trail on the way to Crater Lake, we travel on a good yet steep switchback trail to the “Pyramid Amphitheater.” From here we are negotiating boulders and loose scree to the “Pyramid Saddle.” This is where the climbing starts in earnest through named features like the “leap of faith” and the “Green Monster,” where you are pretty much guaranteed to have close encounters with the resident mountain goats. Our clients are safely secured on a rope with their guides through all technical sections of this climb. The summit of Pyramid offers some of the most spectacular views in the Elks, with the Maroon Bells right in your face directly across the valley. This ascent is ideal for those wanting to “take the next step” with us from hiking mountains to climbing them.
