North Maroon and South Maroon

North Maroon Peak

  • Duration 1 Day
  • Technical Climbing

North Maroon Peak (14,014’) is one of the more popular 14ers in the Maroon Bells wilderness, due to its relatively easy access and dramatic positioning

Standing next to its slightly taller sister, Maroon Peak, it sits in the heart of the Elk mountains with Snowmass and Capitol to the west and Pyramid to the east. The route begins on the west Maroon Creek trail and branches off towards Buckskin pass for a brief time before breaking off towards the north east ridge. The climb from the car is 4500 ft and you pass a few landmarks along the way like the “Ship’s Prow”and the crux “Chimney pitch” to gain the airy NE Ridge to the summit. Enjoy the views while you are safely tethered to the mountain and your professional AMGA guide. It is not uncommon to see mountain goats for the top 1500 ft of the climb, which is where the difficulty increases. Our clients are on rope with their guides through all technical sections of this climb.
