Everest and Gokyo Lakes Trek
A Journey into the Heart of Nepal

Overview

In this classic trek, we’ll view Everest from a variety of angles and view Base Camp by traversing over the Cho La – an 18,000-foot pass that connects the Gokyo Valley with the upper Khumbu Valley. By taking this ultra scenic route we’ll experience more of Nepal’s high country, making an incredible loop through the heart of the Everest region.

From Namche Bazar at 11,750 feet, we’ll trek steadily up the Gokyo Valley eventually reaching the town of Gokyo at 16,500 feet. Early the next evening, we’ll hike up to Gokyo Ri – a panoramic vista at 17,000 feet – and experience some of the finest views of the Khumbu and Mount Everest bathed in late afternoon light.

From Goyko, we’ll traverse over the Cho La Pass and make our way to Everest Base Camp spending a night at the base of the highest mountain in the world. Before we leave the Khumbu, we’ll make a one-day ascent of Kala Patar (18,700 feet) and enjoy more outstanding views the entire region.

Trip length: 22 days / 19 nights
Dates: March 15-Apr 5, 2008 & Oct 4-25, 2008. Note: We can organize this trek for a group of 1 to 16 people beginning on any day during the months of March, April, beginning of May, Oct, Nov & Dec.

Difficulty: Strenuous - Must be able to trek 6-8 hours per day with some longer days.

An experienced, English-speaking local trekking leader. Kathmandu Airport transfers, internal flights and transfers, any land transport involved in the itinerary, hotel accommodation in Kathmandu, a guided half-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu and all meals while in Kathmandu. Once on trek, your trip includes a full service staff, all food and all group equipment.

Your trip does not include:
International flights, Travel Insurance, Nepalese Visa, tips for porters and other trek staff, departure tax on leaving Kathmandu, miscellaneous expenses – souvenirs etc..

Itinerary

Days 1 & 2 - Depart USA and en route to Nepal.

Day 3 - Kathmandu - Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to our hotel.

Day 4 - Kathmandu - Today we explore some of Kathmandu’s famous sites.

Day 5 - Phakding - Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding.

Day 6 - Namche Bazaar - Today we trek to Namche Bazaar.

Day 7 - Namche Bazaar - For acclimatization purposes we spend a second night in Namche Bazaar.

Day 8 - Kyangjungma - Today we trek to Kyangjungma.

Day 9 - Dole - Trek to Dole.

Day 10 - Marchermo - Trek to Marchermo.

Day 11 - Marchermo - Acclimatization day in and around Marchermo Village.

Day 12 - Gokyo - Trek to Gokyo.

Day 13 - Goyko - Acclimatization day at Gokyo Lakes.

Day 14 - Dzongla - Cross the Cho La Pass.

Day 15 - Lobuche - Trek to Lobuche.

Day 16 - Trek to Gorakshep - Today we will trek to Gorakshep and visit Everest Base Camp.

Day 17 - Dingboche - Early morning hike up Kala Patar and then trek to Dingboche.

Day 18 - Deboche - Trek to Deboche.

Day 19 - Monjo - Trek to Monjo.

Day 20 - Lukla - Trek to Lukla.

Day 21 - Kathmandu - Fly to Kathmandu.

Day 22 - Depart Kathmandu - Depart Kathmandu.
