Bhutan Snowman Trek
Trekking in Bhutan - To the remote land of the Laya people and high passes and valleys on the Snowman Trek

Overview

This unique trek takes you to visit the people of Laya that live very near the Tibetan border. Their villages are so remote that they continue to live the way they have for centuries.

From Laya, we continue on a rigorous yet delightful trek through the heart of one of nature’s most spectacular mountainous landscapes, over high mountain passes (5,000 meters) and beneath sky-piercing peaks and thunderous waterfalls, past turquoise lakes and streams, rolling hills and remote yak herders villages.

Near the Tibetan border, 12,630 feet above sea level, Laya sits on the lap of 23,400 foot Masagang, one of Bhutan’s 20 virgin peaks above 23,000 feet. In an area richly colored by wild flowers, this is the world where the elusive Snow Leopards roam and the Blue Sheep, Sambar, and Musk Deer graze in solitude. The winged inhabitants include the raven, wild pheasants, snow pigeons, the red billed cough, the alpine swift, and the black necked crane.

Trekking beyond this distinct area we will pass through high valleys and over high mountain passes ending the trek in the unique and sacred valley of Bhumthang. We'll be trekking and camping at altitudes from 10,000 to 16,570 feet.
